Binchotan is made by carbonizing oak wood inside the kiln at a temperature to about 1000 degrees Celsius to make the wood glowing red hot. The charcoal is then pulled out from kiln and cover with ash to cool it. It gives the charcoal surface a white dusting appearance. This explains the name “white charcoal.”
For BBQ grilling, the charcoal burns and lasts longer compared to the other charcoals and gives off no smoke with little ash.
For alkalizing/filtering of water, simply put 1 or 2 charcoal sticks into a jug of water and leave it into the fridge overnight to purify water.
This natural alkaliser can be used for around two months before needing to be replaced and can be boiled in water every two to three weeks to remove the absorbed chemicals and refresh the sticks.
